The Baptism of Jesus (Mt 3, 11-17)

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him., saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

Jesus replized, “Let it be so now, it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.Then Jonh consented

As soon as Jesus was batized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him, and a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased.”

The Temtation of Jesus (Mt 4, 1-11)

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered,”It is written: “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple, “If you are the Son of God.” He said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“He will command his angels concerning you,

And they will lift you up in their hanhds,

So that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

Jesus anwered him, “It is also written : “Do not put the Lord your God to the test,”

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!” For it is written “Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”

Then the devil left him, and angels came attended him.

- Descend (v) : Xuống, đi xuống ; -lighting (n) : Tia sáng, tia chớp

- with him I am well pleased : Ta hài lòng về Người

- Temtation (n) : Sự cám dỗ ; tempt (v) : Cám dỗ

- lead -> led : điều khiển, dẫn dắt, lãnh đạo

- devil (n) : Ma quỷ ; - fasting : Sự ăn chay ; fast (Vi) : kiêng ăn

- holy city : thành thánh ; temple (n) : Đền thờ

- the highest point of the temple : điểm co nhất của đền thờ (nóc đền thờ)

- concern (vt) : quan tâm đến ; - strike : Đánh dâp, đánh vào

- lift you up : nâng anh lên ; test (n) : kỳ thi , sự thách thức

- Splendor : Sự huy hoàng, chói lõi, vinh hoa

- attended (v) : Phục vụ, có mặt, để ý, đi kèm, hầu hạ

II. GRAMMAR:

A. Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John: Bấy giờ, Đức Giê su từ miền Ga-li-lê đến sông Gio-đan để được chịu phép rửa bởi Gia-an.

Câu bị động (Passive Voices)

Hình thức chung nhất của thể bị động là to be + past participle (phân từ hai).

Ex:

1. My (car) was stolen yesterday : ô tô của tôi bị trộm hôm qua.

2. Taking pictures is not allowed here : Không được chụp hình ở đây.

3. As soon as Jesus was batized, he went up out of the water.

B. Throw yourself down: Tự anh gieo mình xuống

Đại từ phản thân

myself (số nhiều ourselves) /mai.ˈsɛɫf/

1. Tự tôi.

wash myself — tự tôi tắm rửa lấy

2. Chính tôi.
